We have witnessed a relatively busy week in the media for schools and education. All media outlets have reported on the new information from the eSafety Commissioner claiming that 35 per cent of cyberbullying victims are aged 12 to 13. In the month of International Day of Education, and in the week of Safer Internet Day, we are encouraged to remain vigilant. UNESCO have education, digital innovation, and AI on their radar. Under the theme of International Day of Education 2025, Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation, UNESCO organised a global event to spotlight the dynamic interplay between AI and education: Artificial Intelligence and Education: Challenges and Opportunities The topic, the opportunities and the challenges of protecting children’s data, is being debated across the globe.
In schools, we are hearing stories that online trolls and bullies are in larger numbers, the victims are younger, the victims are resisting less, and we, the adults (particularly the parents), are trying to keep pace and keep our kids safe. Additionally, we are balancing these challenges with the clearly articulated need to prepare our kids for the future of work, a future saturated in AI and emerging technologies. We have an entire school framework that is embedded into all that we do at Sunshine Coast Grammar, including education programs, curriculum units, pastoral leaders and experts and well-promoted and explicit reporting processes. Another piece in the puzzle is empowering our families with the knowledge and in some cases, strength, to withstand the wave of challenges.

At last week’s annual Scholar’s Day Assembly, I shared these words, ‘This morning we will celebrate and honour our 2024 Scholars and we will rightly honour academic excellence but also, we will see wonderful humans presented before us. Young people with fantastic futures ahead of them. Young people who have displayed honour and humility through their schooling life here at Grammar. Compassionate and caring people who will continue to live their lives with faith, hope and love displaying our school’s faith values. They are indeed amazing, but like you and me they are not perfect (though some academic results may have been 100% perfect), and the Bible tells us that there was only one person who ever got the perfect score for their life and character, and that is of course Jesus. And so all of us can be very relieved to know that we don’t have to get the perfect score in life because through saying yes to the invitation to have our hope in Jesus, we can have our past forgiven, present, empowered and future secured.
As we pray together now, let’s be reminded that through faith in God, we can (as our 2025 verse and prayer says) have hope, peace, and joy.
God our Father, we thank and praise you for the opportunity this morning to stop and celebrate our Scholars and the wonderful memories of these past students as we celebrate their successes. May they blossom into a future filled with love, hope, joy, and peace. We ask you to help us all continue to make our school the wonderful Community it is, where excellence in all areas is honoured and celebrated, and where faith in action is at the helm of all that we do. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.’

FROM THE HEAD OF PRIMARY
The year is certainly off and running. The Grammar Life Expo highlighted all the co-curricular possibilities for students at Grammar and it is already great to see how many students are taking up the opportunity to be involved in the life of the school outside of the classroom. This week’s P-2 Da Capo Choir deserves a special mention with 82 students attending rehearsal with Mrs Poole; we look forward to seeing the upcoming performances.
Following our successful Twilight Swimming Carnival, next week we have Year 6 students representing the school at the annual Ecumenical Service and the Prep to Year 2 students attending their Setting Up for Success Assembly; all of this in addition to a large number of students now attending our after-school clubs and activities. We look forward to an exciting term.
Thank you to parents for your co-operation concerning traffic flow and parking. Remember students in Years 1-6 will leave class at 3:05 pm and arrive at departure areas after this time.
Class Information Sessions
During these first few weeks of Term One, classes have been Setting up for Success, focusing on establishing routines, expectations and our Grammar Learning Assets. Families have also had the opportunity to attend our orientation day and the Grammar Life Expo, both designed to support a smooth transition into the school year and showcase the many co-curricular opportunities available to students across the school.
In Week 4, we warmly invite families to an information session with your child’s Classroom Teacher. This whole-class session will focus on classroom routines and expectations, homework requirements, key events for the year, and provide an opportunity for parents to ask any questions they may have after the first few weeks of the term. These Class Information Sessions are scheduled prior to school pick-up times. To assist with traffic at the end of the school day, we ask that you do not park in any Kiss and Go collection areas when attending the sessions.
Parking will be limited during these hours; however, as well as the gold marked parent carparks throughout the school, some additional student parks at the back of the school, and between the Grammar Early Learning Centre and the lake, can also be used. To assist with traffic at the end of the school day, we ask that you do not park in any Kiss and Go collection areas when attending the sessions.
- Monday 17 February: Prep (2:15 pm - 2:45 pm) and Year 4 (2:30 pm - 3:00 pm)
- Tuesday 18 February: Year 1 (2:30 pm - 3:00 pm) and Year 3 (2:30 pm - 3:00 pm)
- Wednesday 19 February: Year 2 (2:30 pm - 3:00 pm) and Year 5 (2:30 pm - 3:00 pm)
- Friday 21 February: Year 6 (2:30 pm - 3:00 pm)
Our Parent Teacher Interviews, which are part of our reporting process, will be held on Tuesday 25 March and Wednesday 2 April. Booking requests will be sent later in the term. These individual meetings will be an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, both academically and socially, and how your child has settled into the school year. Details on how to book an appointment will be shared closer to the date. As always, if you wish to meet with your child’s teacher before the official Parent Teacher Interview period, please reach out to arrange a suitable time.
We value your partnership and look forward to working together for a productive and rewarding year ahead.
Uniforms
A student’s appearance at Grammar and in public is of great importance and should be a source of pride. This applies not only to uniforms but general appearance, including hair and behaviour. Teachers working with parents to support students with their presentation is always a positive start and we appreciate your support in this area.
Lost Property
Every item of clothing and equipment should be clearly named. This includes sporting equipment such as tennis racquets, cricket gear, footballs, all books and stationery. As students change at school, underclothes should be included in the list of items to be named. Parents are urged to be vigilant in this matter. Lost property boxes are located near the Student Reception and the Aquatic Centre.
If you have a named item at home that isn’t your child’s, please return it to the Lost Property boxes.
If your child has lost an item, please look in the Lost Property boxes.

FROM THE HEAD OF SECONDARY
The school year is well underway and the last two weeks have been incredibly busy.
One of our signature events was the Grammar Life Expo which showcased the incredible variety of activities our students have available to them. The pleasing thing to witness was the number of students encouraging others to join these activities and speak to the benefits of getting involved in this important aspect of school life.
Following on from the expo was the first Open Day of the year. This saw continued interest from many prospective families who came in for the day to learn more about the great opportunities we provide at Sunshine Coast Grammar School.
Last Friday we welcomed back our scholars of 2024 to honour and recognise their achievements. Teagan Van Wyk spoke on behalf of the 2024 cohort highlighting the dedication and efforts of the staff in creating a supportive and nurturing environment for our students to excel. My congratulations go to James Luu our Dux for 2024.

This week we had the opportunity to recognise our senior students who have been appointed to leadership positions. These leaders have been rewarded for their passion and commitment to particular co-curricular aspects of the school community.
Our secondary House Swimming Carnival was a great success on Thursday, my congratulations to every student who put in their best on the day. The success of the day is firmly reliant upon the participation of the students, it was really pleasing to see so many students turn up and simply get in and have a go. House spirit and school pride were certainly on show for all to see. The Year 12 students led from the front all day, encouraging their peers and setting a great example for all to follow.
Finally, this weekend our musicians are off to their camp. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students involved in this program to bond and work on their musical talents. I want to thank the dedicated Music Staff and those who have volunteered to help ensure the students have a great experience.

Library Lovers Day
February 14th isn't just for chocolates and roses—it's also Library Lovers Day! This special day is celebrated not only in Australia but all around the world. It's our chance to give a big shoutout to libraries, those magical places that can change lives.
To get our students excited, we host an annual "Blind Date with a Book." The idea is simple: students pick a wrapped book to take home and read. The only rule? Just like a blind date, you have to give it a chance and get to know it. Sometimes, these books surprise our students, introducing them to new genres or authors they might never have discovered otherwise.
So, this Library Lovers Day, why not show some love to your local library? You never know what treasures you might find!

We’ve had an amazing start to the year, and it’s been wonderful to see all the children settling beautifully into their new learning environments.
Our Nursery children have embraced their new learning journey with excitement. For many, this is their first experience in care, and they’ve done an incredible job building relationships with their educators and making new friends.
The Toddlers have enjoyed the “big yard”, eagerly exploring their surroundings and embracing new experiences with curiosity and enthusiasm!
Junior children have been diving into name recognition through interactive and engaging activities. During mat time, they played a fun matching game, pairing their locker tags with their written names on the board.
Kindy has been all about colour exploration! Through hands-on activities like paint mixing and marble painting, they discovered how colours blend to create new shades. Watercolour mixing was a huge hit, with lots of excitement over making green, orange, and even brown - one little artist even named their creation “Coca-Cola!”
We have a jam-packed schedule of activities across Grammar ELC this year!
Tennis (Kindy Group - Tuesdays)
Tennis is in full swing, and last week, the Kindy group had their first session with Coach Nick. Themed “At the Fire Station”, the class featured four different stations, each focusing on a new tennis skill. The energy was high, and the children loved every moment on the court!
Playball
Playball is back for another year, with sessions for different age groups:
- Kindy One & Two - Mondays
- Toddlers & Juniors - Thursdays
- Kindy Three - Fridays
Last week, the children worked on fine motor skills, practising grip and grasp with hula hoops before honing their underarm throwing skills, tossing bean bags and balls into the net. They wrapped up the session in the Zen Zone, taking a few quiet moments to focus on breathing and mindfulness - a perfect way to wind down after all the action!
Chapel & Library (Kindy groups - Thursday)
Chapel and Library were a huge hit with the Kindy children! It was their first time walking down to the big school this week to visit our beautiful campus and, even more exciting, borrowing a book from the junior library.
Here’s to another fantastic week of learning, exploring, and growing together!
