2024 Sports People of the Year
Last week, we also celebrated success in the sporting arena and recognised 5 incredible athletes as our 2024 Sports People of the Year. All athletes are highly disciplined in their chosen fields and have represented Grammar, Queensland and Australia with pride.
Congratulations Byron Dieckman (2024 Alumni), Mackenzie Burns (2024 Alumni), Grace Brimelow (Year 12), Daisy Quinn (Year 12) and Addison Houslip (Year 10).
Byron earned selection in two Australian Paddle Teams, competing at the Junior World Championships in Bulgaria and the Asia Pacific Cp in Canberra. Byron is also accomplished in surf lifesaving and captained at the World Champions Maroochydore in the Youth Inter-Club World Championships, where he won a silver medal in the ski final.
Mackenzie had an outstanding 2024 in swimming, winning 13 national and state medals. She also captained the Queensland team at the School Sport Australia Championships, won five medals and set two Australian School Sport records.
Grace Brimelow is Australia's youngest-ever para-triathlete to compete at the Paralympic Games. Grace's selection in 2024 was a highlight for our school community. Throughout the year, Grace also claimed gold in three world series events, Open Women’s Para-Triathlon events - Devonport and Stockton in Australia, and Vigo in Spain.
Daisy earned selection in the Swimming Australian Open Water Team for the Junior World Championships in Italy, where she placed 15th in the 7.5km event, and 7th in the mixed relay. Domestically, Daisy has also won gold across the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships and Queensland Championships and the Swimming Australia National Championships.
Addison was selected for the Australian Triathlon Target Talent Program, Australian Cycling Development Academy and Australian Athletics Target Talent Program, and won gold at the School Sport Australia Championships for the third consecutive year. Addison also won the National 3000m track championships and represented Queensland in cross country at the National Championships.
Well done to all incredible athletes!

Academy Netball
Our Academy netballers have hit the ground running this season, diving straight into high-intensity court sessions and strength and conditioning training as they prepare for an exciting 2025 playing season.
Last week, we were privileged to have Advanced Sports Dietitian and Nutritionist, Ali Miles, lead a dynamic session on the vital role of proper energy intake in supporting high-performance training. This informative and interactive experience provided valuable insights for both students and parents.
We look forward to welcoming Ali back for another engaging session later this term.

Secondary Swimming Carnival
Yesterday the Secondary School held its inter-house swimming carnival. The day was full of enjoyment, loud warcries and support for one another. This carnival displayed the very best of Grammar, with students and staff aligned to bring enjoyment, create memories and build connections as a school community.
The Grammar 100 opened proceedings with records galore. The first three girls broke the existing record, with Georgia E narrowly getting in front of Freya G by a whisker to be crowned girls' champion.
In the boys' race, Jake H also broke the record to win his maiden Grammar 100.
Congratulations to the Bradman Bulldogs for winning both the House Spirit and Overall Champion trophies in 2025.

Thank you to all staff from across the school who contributed to the day. My immense thanks to Tanya Hoffman for all that she did in preparation and on the day itself. She is extraordinary for our school community. Lastly, my sincere gratitude for our magnificent House Coordinators who led their students with care and energy.

Triathlon and Aquathlon
We wish all Grammar students every success at this weekend’s QRSS Triathlon and Aquathlon Championships in Hervey Bay.
Grammar Fitness Centre
Attention all secondary students and athletes.
Improve your physical and mental health by exercising regularly, using the Grammar Fitness Centre, free of charge.
The school gym is located in the Aquatic Centre and is available for use by students in years 7-12 on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons between 3.15pm and 5.00pm. All you need to bring is a towel, water bottle, covered shoes and a positive attitude. These sessions are supervised and led by a qualified personal trainer who can help create a training program for you.
We value our students and would like to celebrate success through sport. Please email news articles and a maximum of 3 photos to Mr Withers - awithers@scgs.qld.edu.au (Primary) and Mr Abrahams - jabrahams@scgs.qld.edu.au (Secondary) and we will try to include them in our fortnightly newsletters. It is important that we include all Grammar students involved in an event, so please try to mention the names of all participants in your article.
