GRAMMAR LIFE
FROM THE DEAN OF CO-CURRICULUM
Winter Cricket training commencing from Thursday, 12 June. Join the Grammar team via the PlayHQ App.
On Saturday, seven Grammar teams competed in the opening Regional Round of the UN Youth EVATT Competition against ten other teams from the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and Hervey Bay.
Debating the questions of Transnational Drug Trafficking and Overfishing, teams represented their allocated country in a mock UN Security Council Meeting. After much discussion, debate and negotiation, resolutions were passed (or in some cases, vetoed).
While results will not be released until all Qld Regional Rounds are complete, our teams are all to be highly commended. Most of our teams were comprised of students in Year 9, with only one Year 10 student and two Year 11 students. All but two competed in this high-level competition for the first time, predominantly against students in Year 12.
All teams are to be congratulated for their determination, listening and speaking skills, knowledge of current world issues, and complex UN Security Council procedures.
In true UN spirit, new partnerships were established to develop a plan to connect with teams from other schools in the region on a more regular basis to promote further opportunities for our students.
Well done to all students.

Readers' Cup
On Thursday night, five students competed in the Year 8 Readers' Cup Competition at Baringa Secondary College. They read five books and answered questions about them in four rounds. There were 19 other schools in the competition. It was a fun night with some lively competition. In a very close fight to the end, our team successfully came second.
The team consisted of Amber W, Chelsea J, Naia S, Olivia R and Sahara S.
