FROM THE DEAN OF CO-CURRICULUM
SCIPHA Chess Tournament
On Friday, 9 May, a group of talented chess students represented Sunshine Coast Grammar School at the annual SCIPHA Tournament for Independent Schools, held at Suncoast Christian College.
Three teams proudly competed: one in the Novice Division and two in the Open Division, demonstrating patience, strategy and sportsmanship throughout the day. It was wonderful to observe their quiet focus, analytical thinking, and genuine joy for the game of chess.
In the Open Division, the team of Alyna A, Agam S, Ben W and Harrison S finished 4th. In a very tight finish, they were only 1 point behind 3rd and 1.5 behind 2nd.
The team of Xavier F, Vivin M, Edward W and Evelyn H were also close behind,d finishing 5th.
Our youngest players also did well in the Novice Division. The team of Will R, Maisie M, Alfie H and Shreya B finished 10th out of 23 teams.
All students played admirably and experienced moments of personal success during the event. Their ability to remain composed under pressure and learn from each move was a testament to their growing skill and resilience.
Congratulations to all players for their enthusiastic participation and commitment. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented Grammar with integrity and grace. Thank you as well to Mrs Gahan for attending the event.
The Grammar Community Run Club provides an opportunity for all members of the Grammar School community to come together and take part in a number of running and walking events across the Sunshine Coast. In August, we will be participating in the ‘Sunshine Coast Marathon’.
Event date: Sunday 3 August 2025. Start/Finish Line: Alexandra Headlands Surf Club
There are 5 different events to choose from, 2km to full marathon.
We look forward to watching and cheering our Grammar Community as they take on these events.
