FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Strong leadership begins at home
The research reminds that the relative ‘health’ of every person’s supportive relationships, particularly within family and across friendship groups, often aligns with positive self-esteem. A strong, nurturing social and family network is foundational to living well.
We are all role models for our students and children – It takes a village
Grammar is fortunate to have many highly regarded and experienced leaders within our community. These leaders demonstrate for us that their time and energy are valuable resources and prioritise their family and friends, however, they also stress the importance of prioritising their work. They describe how this assists them in maximising their impact and productivity. They develop strategies to ensure they focus on the most critical tasks to maximise their abilities at the right time.
Reflecting on our guest speakers and great leaders, I am always amazed by how their day jobs often showcase their best personal assets and characteristics. They are living examples that values, personal strengths and characteristics strike a balance between work and home, defining a great life of leadership. They stay grounded in their values and identity, carrying a quiet, humble confidence. They lead at work much like they do at home—by sharing a clear vision, motivating others, and fostering collaboration, seamlessly aligning personal and professional leadership. They value rest, exercise, and mental well-being to enhance focus and decision-making, and they practise the rare skill of being truly present. In doing so, they lead with purpose and effectiveness, setting a powerful example of leadership and 'adulting' for the next generation.
Strong leadership across the Sunshine Coast begins at home
Living well means aligning work and life authentically, anchored by purpose, values, and connection. Across the Coast, we see this in action through exceptional leaders in operations, infrastructure, education and politics—Emma Thomas, Professor Helen Bartlett, Anna Jackson, Amanda Yeates and Cr Rosanna Natoli—who have all been speakers or are future speakers at our International Women’s Day Breakfasts and exemplify balance, strength, and integrity. Their leadership reminds us that true impact starts in our homes and communities, lifting others as they climb.
