GRAMMAR LIFE
FROM THE DEAN OF CO-CURRICULUM
da Vinci Decathlon
What an extraordinary week we’ve had here at Grammar. This year marked our third time hosting the Regional da Vinci Decathlon. Over two action packed days, we welcomed 82 teams (more than 650 students) from 17 schools spanning the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Toowoomba, and the Gold Coast.
It was wonderful to witness such bright, enthusiastic minds in action as students competed in challenges across ten disciplines: engineering, mathematics, code-breaking, art and poetry, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy. This event is more than just a competition — it’s a celebration of learning, curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity.
Our Year 5 & 6 teams competed on Wednesday and were outstanding ambassadors for our school. They navigated the day with great spirit, working collaboratively, creatively, and effectively. On Thursday, the competition continued with 52 teams from Years 7 to 10, each bringing a high level of academic rigour and friendly competition. We were proud to see our students perform so well, placing across multiple disciplines.
As we look ahead, we are excited to be sending a team of students from Years 5 to 11 to represent Grammar at the State da Vinci Decathlon at BBC in two weeks. We know they will do us proud.

Students from Years 8, 9, 10 and 12 had the unique opportunity to dive into the world of advanced composites during a hands-on workshop led by Joe Bryant from Aeromech.
The workshop introduced students to the fascinating process of creating carbon fibre components, which is an essential material in modern aerospace engineering due to its strength, lightweight properties and durability. Joe guided the students through every step, from layering the composite sheets to the crucial baking process that solidifies the structure.
Bringing this workshop to the school marks a milestone in hands-on STEM education. It offered students a rare glimpse into industry practices while nurturing their passion for innovation.
Well done to all students.
