Cross Country
We are excited to announce that this year’s Primary and Secondary Cross Country Carnivals will take place on Tuesday, 1 April (Week 10) at Sunshine Coast Grammar School. All races will be in age groups, from 8 years to Opens, with opportunities to determine our Age Champions, Champion House for 2025 and House Spirit winners. This event will also help select our Primary and Secondary District Cross Country teams for the Independent District Carnival in Term 2.
Stay tuned for confirmed timings and further details. A full program with exact race times will be distributed closer to the event. Primary races will take place between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm, and secondary races will follow after 12:00 pm.
We encourage all students to participate, try their best and showcase their house spirit.
In preparation for the carnival, training sessions will be available for all students in Years 3-12 to build endurance, confidence, resilience, race skills, and community spirit. Grammar Run Club
Olympian Juan Van Deventer leads the Grammar Run Club on Monday mornings on the training oval at the top of the school from 7:00 - 7:45 am.
It was so great to see so many new students and parents at the Grammar Run Club. These sessions are open to all staff, students P-12 and their parents. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with members of the Grammar community, get fit and have fun in a supportive environment. All abilities are welcome!
In addition, Level 3 Sprint Coach and parent Lee Batchler, is delivering speed sessions for interested students. There is a focus on field and court athletes. This will run alongside the regular fitness session so runners have a choice!

Read more about the success of our athletes on our website.
Triathlon and Aquathlon
At the end of week 3, the QRSS Triathlon and Aquathlon Championships took place in Hervey Bay. Grammar had 11 student-athletes competing across the two disciplines with each student performing exceptionally well in the heat and rain. The skill, discipline, grit and determination on display is something to behold, with each student-athlete pushing themselves to their limits. Seven Grammar student-athletes have been selected to represent Queensland at the School Sport Australia Championships in Perth next month. Our congratulations to all competitors, we are so proud of how you represented our school and region.

Inaugural Grammar Aquathlon
We successfully held our inaugural Aquathlon on Friday 28 February with over 60 competitors swimming and running their best. We had Mr Toby Coote and Mr Peter McKenzie, two of the Sunshine Coasts best coaches supporting us at the event.
Thank you to the parents and staff who supported the event and to our senior students supported our younger ones throughout the event and at the finish line. We look forward to our next Aquathlon in early October before the Regional trial event at Kawana where we will include a parent / staff event for fun!
Surf Lifesaving
Grammar has some exceptionally talented surf and beach athletes within our student and staff body. Some have been training all season and therefore it is such a shame that due to the recent Cyclone, the State Youth Championships have been cancelled this weekend on the Gold Coast.
In the recent QLD Beach Series Final, Amelie performed incredibly well, winning the overall state championship with the following results:
U15 Female Age Champion
- 3 x 1st flags
- 1x 1st sprints
- 2 x 2nd sprints
At the Branch competition, Amelie and Finn both competed well and achieved the following:
Amelie
- 1st U15 female beach sprint
- 1st U15 female beach flags
- 2nd all age relay
Finn
- 1st U13 male beach relay
- 1st U13 mixed beach relay
- 2nd U13 male Cameron relay
- 3rd 2 x 1km beach relay
- 6th U13 male beach flags
RUGBY
Last chance to register for the Club Rugby season!
We intend to enter a team in the U13, U15 and U17 club competitions, held on Friday nights across Term 2 and 3. So far, we have low numbers across all three teams and are in jeopardy of not entering these teams.
Registrations will close this Friday, 14 March so if you haven’t registered, please use the following link to the portal.

NETBALL
Academy Netball
Our Academy netballers continue to work hard this year, demonstrating dedication both on and off the court. Recently, they had the incredible opportunity to hear from special guest speaker Gabi Simpson; Australian Diamond #164 and Queensland Firebird #76.
Gabi shared valuable insights on the importance of owning your strengths. Focusing on several key themes, including the idea that success comes from owning and embracing individual strengths, providing them with valuable strategies to build confidence and self-belief. We look forward to seeing our netballers implement these important skills both on and off the court.
We look forward to welcoming Gabi back for another engaging session later this term.

School Netball
The 2025 Secondary Schools Netball Competition is well underway, with teams taking the court for Round 1 last week. It was great to see our netballers back in action as they represent Grammar.
Show your support for our netball teams on a Monday night at the Sunshine Coast Netball Association Courts on Fishermans Road.
Club Netball
Grading games commence this weekend at Fishermans Road and we look forward to cheering on our divisional teams as they compete. Good luck, Team Grammar!
SWIMMING
Independent District Swimming Carnivals
Grammar hosted the Independent District Primary and Secondary Swimming Carnivals recently, with many students setting records, collecting age champion trophies, age group trophies and winning event after event. Importantly, we also need to celebrate the Grammar swimmers who filled in last minute, those who swam in races knowing it wasn’t their fastest or favourite stroke but they were doing it for the team - a true ‘we not me’ attitude. We rightly celebrate our champions, but we must also celebrate those who provide depth and equally give their best.
BIG NEWS….we commend our Primary team for finishing third and our Secondary team for finishing second. Congratulations - we are hugely proud of every swimmer.
My sincere thanks to all staff who helped create these wonderful opportunities – Grammar Swimming and their coaches, Grammar Logistics, Mr Withers, Mr Henricks and most notably Mrs Halloran and Mrs Hoffman.
Congratulations to the following students and teams on their results.

Swimming Australia Flippers Squad
Year 12 student Daisy Quinn and Year 11 student Rylee Smith, accompanied by our Head Coach Luke Stafford, are travelling to Lennox Head today to participate in the prestigious Flippers Squad annual camp.
Rylee has earned her place as a member of the elite squad and is thrilled to make her debut, while Daisy has been invited back for an impressive third consecutive year, as a result of her outstanding performances in the 2024 season.
Head Coach Luke Stafford is returning for his third year with the squad and has taken on the significant role of one of two Lead Coaches for the camp, mentoring 17 swimmers and 8 coaches and support staff.
This camp brings together Australia’s top youth open-water swimmers, providing them with invaluable tactical experience and the opportunity to train alongside one another in a dynamic open-water setting.

Grammar Fitness Centre
Attention all secondary students and athletes.
Improve your physical and mental health by exercising regularly, using the Grammar Fitness Centre, free of charge.
The school gym is located in the Aquatic Centre and is available for use by students in years 7-12 on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons between 3:15 - 5:00 pm. All you need to bring is a towel, water bottle, covered shoes and a positive attitude. These sessions are supervised and led by a qualified personal trainer who can help create a training program for you.
We value our students and would like to celebrate success through sport. Please email news articles and a maximum of 3 photos to Mr Withers - awithers@scgs.qld.edu.au (Primary) and Mr Abrahams - jabrahams@scgs.qld.edu.au (Secondary) and we will try to include them in our fortnightly newsletters. It is important that we include all Grammar students involved in an event, so please try to mention the names of all participants in your article.
