SECONDARY NEWS
FROM THE HEAD OF SECONDARY
This week has seen our school return to normal after the two-day closure due to Cyclone Alfred. Unfortunately, there have been some cancellations, which is understandable; however, the school has not sustained any damage. This week our Year 7 and 9 students commenced their NAPLAN both Reading and Writing tests, without any major disruption.
Today, our Year 10 students had the opportunity to attend the Future Careers showcase at UniSC, which provided students with insight into emerging careers and enabled them to determine their study choices leading into tertiary education and occupational training after high school.
Next week, our Year 11 students will have their first exam block, and parents are advised that students have been given their exam timetables. Normally, students attend school when they have an exam; however, they are welcome to attend school outside their exam schedule and use the study room as a base during the school day.
Families will also receive a letter this week outlining the switch to continuous reporting for Year 7-9. This will bring our junior secondary school in line with our senior year levels.

Pastoral Care Notes
An important communication tool used by staff is the issuing of “Pastoral Care Notes”. These are generated electronically and are designed to provide parents with timely feedback on the progress of students. Teachers are encouraged to recognise students engaging well with our programs, and proactively identify when behaviours are not meeting school expectations to assist with early intervention.
Process
When a teacher enters a Pastoral Care note, the system will automatically generate an email to you advising that an entry has been made. This email will include a link to GECO Parent Lounge where you will be able to read the information attached to the entry. Please note that the nature of the communications you will receive does not need a reply and is for information only. Staff will contact you directly if there are concerns.
Should parents require assistance accessing our GECO Parent Lounge, please contact our IT Helpdesk for assistance.
