PRIMARY NEWS

FROM THE HEAD OF PRIMARY

Acting Head of Primary, Mr Craig Angel

Welcome back to Sunshine Coast Grammar for 2025 and a special welcome to our new Grammar families.  It was wonderful to see so many happy and focused students. Classes have been very settled, with students working alongside their teachers to set up for a successful year.  A real highlight at the beginning of the year was the opening of the new primary building.  Students and Teachers have settled in well.

We also have several new teachers and leadership team members who will be introduced in the next Lion’s Roar.

Our finishing times have changed for 2025.  It is important to note that there are two different finishing times for the Primary School.

  • Prep students finish at 2:45 pm
  • Year 1 to 6 students finish at 3:05 pm

If you are picking your child/children up from school, please plan to arrive at your eldest child’s finishing time.  This will assist with traffic and parking, and enable families with younger students only, to collect students and exit the school.

Thank you to parents for your support as we transition into the new building.  If your child’s class is located in the new building and you are waiting downstairs to meet them at the end of the day, it would be greatly appreciated if you could wait outside the building where your child can meet you.

It has also been wonderful to see the construction of the new junior Primary play equipment in the forest area.  We are looking forward to this equipment being available for students to play on in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience at this early stage of the school year which, like all schools, is traditionally a busy time.  I look forward to seeing you around the campus.

Setting Up for Success

In the Primary School, students have begun the year engaging with our Setting Up for Success program.  In this program teachers work with students to make our Learning Assets explicit, ensuring students have a clear understanding of the skills that will assist them at their age and stage of learning.  Our Learning Assets, which consist of Collaboration, Communication, Thinking, Researching and Self-Management, are reported on as part of the reporting process in Terms 2 and 4.

Leave During Term Time

Please be advised that it is our preference that students don’t take leave during term time.  There is no expectation that teachers will provide work for students if families choose to take leave during term time.  If assessment is taking place during the time students are on leave, students will forego this opportunity.

Parents wishing to remove their children from school for family vacations or other extended leave must seek permission from the Head of Primary School in writing at HeadofPrimary@scgs.qld.edu.au

Parents can notify one-off instances of leave or leave for sporting events through the usual channels, i.e. Absentee Email - absentees@scgs.qld.edu.au, as well as the Class Teacher.

Rainforest Caféteria and Flexischools Reminder

A reminder to parents to please update your child/children’s class/es on Flexischools as soon as possible to avoid any issues with Rainforest Caféteria orders.  The new Menu is now available on GECO.
