Exchange and Study Reflections – French and Japanese

During Term 4, two of our Year 10 French students were fortunate to travel to France and immerse themselves with host families and school life in Aurillac. Perhaps the most enriching part of the program was that both students had already hosted their French “correspondantes” so it was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen these friendships and share a deeper understanding of the cultural differences.

Three Year 11 Japanese students also enjoyed a six-week exchange over the summer holidays at our Sister School in Japan. This immersive experience highlighted the incredible benefits of continuing language studies into senior years, offering unique cultural insights, enhanced language proficiency, and valuable international connections. Learning a language opens doors to unforgettable opportunities! We look forward to sharing more from these exchange students once they have settled back into our school.

Teacher Spotlight

Di Pietra Sensei utilised her summer holidays to attend language classes in Japan, thanks to a scholarship from the Tokyo Government aimed at supporting the ongoing language education of Japanese teachers in Queensland. She participated in a three-week immersive language program in Fukuoka, Kyushu. This experience not only enhanced her language skills but also improved her teaching practices and expanded her professional network in Japan. A significant takeaway was the profound reminder of what it feels like to be a student again.
