FROM THE SPORTS DEPARTMENT

Welcome to a bumper 2025 for Grammar Sport. We love to support the achievements of our students and staff and encourage students and their parents to send in results and photos for us to publish in the fortnightly newsletter. Please try to include all Grammar students competing so everyone is celebrated.

Our congratulations to all Grammar students who competed over the summer break. Please see below a number of performances to recognise. We know there were more so please send them in!

District Trial Information & Expression of Interest

As part of the National Pathways for School Sport, students have the opportunity to represent Sunshine Coast Grammar School in various sports throughout the year. For more information and to register, view the attached document.

Equestrian

Best of luck to Amelia B who is attending the Eventing Queensland Awards this weekend as a nominee for the following:

  • QLD Junior EvA95 Rider & Horse of the Year
  • QLD EvA95 Rider & Horse of the Year
  • Aitken's Leaderboard

Grammar Run Club

The Grammar Run Club will commence again in week 3 on the training oval at Grammar from 7:00 - 7:45 am. These sessions are open to all staff, students from Prep - Year 12 and their parents. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with members of the Grammar community, get fit and have fun in a supportive environment. Everyone is welcome!Grammar_Run_Club.jpg

Oztag

Best of luck to all Grammar students competing in the Queensland State OzTag Competition this weekend.

Pool Life Saving

2025 Australian Pool Lifesaving Update

Sunshine Coast Grammar had six students compete at their first Australian Pool Lifesaving Championships on Thursday 16 January. 

All six competed in five events:

  • 100m Obstacles 
  • 10m Rope Throw Rescue
  • 100m Mannikin Carry 
  • 50m Mannikin Tow
  • 50m Manikin Carry 

Congratulations to Luke Y, Owen B and Tom B who placed and took out the overall point score after the five events. From primary school, we had Ari W, Jetsun and Zara S also compete, posting numerous personal best times. 

Sailing

Over the holidays Olivia B competed in several sailing regattas, performing well against competitive opponents.

  • 17th overall and 4th female at the QLD Optimist State
  • 19th female, 31st in Silver Fleet and 88th overall at the Optimist National Championships.

Surf Lifesaving

The SLSQ State Boardriders Competition was held on the Gold Coast over the summer break. In the U15 Category Ashton B achieved bronze and Charlie R silver.

Volleyball

Over the Christmas break Tate C was named in the U15 boys Queensland beach volleyball team to compete at the Nationals in March. Tate also won gold at the Kurrawa competition and more recently silver at the Queensland Open. 



FOOTBALL

Thank you to our Prep and Year 1 students for attending our come-and-try day yesterday. It was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic football players and we look forward to seeing you on the pitch this year representing Grammar.

SWIMMING

Join us for our first school swimming carnival of 2025, an exciting evening where our talented competitive swimmers will showcase their skills.

Date: Thursday 6 February 2025
Location: Sunshine Coast Grammar Aquatic Centre
Time: 4:00 - 7:00 pm

This event celebrates our swimmers and is a key opportunity to:
  • Determine Age Champions (most points accumulated across eligible events)
  • Achieve District Qualifying Times (Primary Students Only; Secondary progresses directly to Regionals)
  • Set new school records
  • Secure a spot on the 2025 Grammar School Swim Team (based on carnival results, swim times, and recent performances)

Grammar Fitness Centre

Attention all secondary students and athletes. 

Improve your physical and mental health by exercising regularly, using the Grammar Fitness Centre, free of charge.

The school gym is located in the Aquatic Centre and is available for use by students in years 7-12 on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons between 3.15pm and 5.00pm. All you need to bring is a towel, water bottle, covered shoes and a positive attitude. It is important that we include all Grammar students involved in an event, so please try to mention the names of all participants in your article.
