SECONDARY NEWS
FROM THE HEAD OF SECONDARY
The new school year has commenced, and it feels like the holidays are a distant memory. This year we welcome over 80 new families into secondary school, our new students have come from both local, interstate and overseas. During the first week all our new students have been welcomed and with the help of their buddies eased into life at Grammar. I have heard of some wonderful connections being made between our new students and their buddies.
We commence 2025 with several new teachers in the secondary school, Mrs Talina Rose (Humanities), Mr Graham Kanowski and Mr Andrew Skipper (Mathematics), Mr Rohan Young and Mr Callum Brown (Science), Mr James Witcombe (Head of Year), Mr Dan Neven (English) and Mr Peter Evans (Art), Ms Vicki Farley (HPE).
Our 2024 seniors performed exceptionally well last year. Their results saw Grammar produce a median ATAR higher than any other school on the Sunshine Coast and placed us amongst the top schools in Queensland. These results were a direct reflection of the educational environment we have created. When students are supported by dedicated and passionate staff they have every opportunity to excel.
Thank you to all parents for your patience in navigating school traffic during the return to school. For Secondary families, the Parsons Road entrance loop is the most efficient. Parents will also find that we have created an extra drop-off zone adjacent to the swimming pool on your left-hand side as you come through the Parsons Road entrance.
Wishing everyone a warm welcome.

FROM THE PATHWAYS DEPARTMENT
Grammar’s Pathways Team provides career information, career education and career counselling services to the School community. Our main portal for access to careers information and Pathways programs is the Careers and Pathways page on GECO. All Secondary Students and Parents have access to this Group page here, where you will find links to a myriad of resources to help you explore your future possibilities.
Throughout the year, we receive information on a range of opportunities for students to participate in career-related events and activities. We also run our own in-school events and programs, often involving university and/or employer representatives coming to speak with our students. We have two news feeds: the Pathways Hub newsfeed, which provides information about events and opportunities that are available to all students in all schools, including things like scholarships and university Open Days. The newsfeed on the Careers and Pathways page provides information about local events and opportunities on the Sunshine Coast or those just for the Grammar community. Please make it a habit to check both of these newsfeeds regularly, as new items come up every week.
Students and Parents can book an appointment any time to speak with a member of the Pathways Team about their future plans, and their decision-making about subjects and courses. Just click on the “Book Online” button on the Careers and Pathways page to access our booking system.
We look forward to working with you this year, to help you find your pathway to a future filled with passion and purpose!
